World Bank VP visits manufacturing industries in the capital

Addis Ababa, April 2, 2024 (FBC) – World Bank Vice President for Ethics and Internal Justice Services, Lisa Rosen, and Ethiopian Industry Minister Melaku Alebel inspected small and medium manufacturing industries supported by the Bank.

Mr. Melaku highlighted that the purpose of the visit was to assess the effectiveness of these industries in creating employment opportunities through loans from the World Bank.

Impressed by the activities she witnessed, Lisa Rosen commended the manufacturing industries for their alignment with climate-friendly practices. She expressed her satisfaction with their operations and reiterated the World Bank’s commitment to further collaboration with the Ethiopian government in bolstering support for small and medium enterprises.

Mr. Melaku emphasized the significant role of the Ethiopian Tamrt campaign in addressing sectoral challenges, enabling the revival of closed industries, reemployment of citizens, and the establishment of new ventures within the sector.

The visit is said to have underscored the ongoing partnership between the World Bank and the Ethiopian government in supporting the growth and sustainability of small and medium industries in the region.
