Czechia companies invited to tap opportunities brought by macroeconomic reforms in Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, December 9, 2024 (FMC) – Ethiopia’s State Minister at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Birtukan Ayano, has invited the Czech Republic firms to take advantage of the opportunities presented by her country’s recent macroeconomic reforms.

The state minister extended the call to Czechia companies during an Ethiopia-Czech Republic Business Forum which was held in Addis Ababa , according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In her opening remarks at the event, Ambassador Birtukan stated that Ethiopia has emerged as one of the world’s fastest-growing economies, driven by home-grown reforms focused on rapid, green, and sustainable growth.

Reiterating the recent measures taken to address key investor concerns, such as foreign exchange shortages and regulatory challenges, while improving ease of doing business and attracting foreign investment, State Minister Birtukan invited Czech Republic companies to take advantage of opportunities brought by the macroeconomic reforms.

The State Minister mentioned, at the moment, Ethiopia imports industrial equipment and machinery from the Czech Republic while exporting coffee, flowers, textiles, and leather products. However, in order to unlock the full potential of the economic cooperation, both sides must work collaboratively to deepen these exchanges and expand partnerships in areas such as manufacturing, ICT, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and energy, she added.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Labour and Social Affairs of the Czech Republic, Marian Jurečka, speaking at the opening of the Forum said, “I bear witness to the tangible results achieved as part of transformational works being carried out in Ethiopia through the macro-economic reforms.”

The Deputy Prime Minister also expressed his commitment to enhance the economic relations between the two countries.
